Frequently Asked Questions
About Choi's Martial Arts
Q. What is the philosophy of Choi’s?
A. At Choi’s, we believe that every child is a good natured child who has the capacity and willingness to achieve greatness with the proper environment, encouragement, and guidance. Our sole goal is to provide these factors through the incorporation of traditional values of martial arts in a safe, clean and modern setting.
Q. What is Taekwondo, and how is it different from other martial arts?
A. Martial Arts were developed over thousands of years, as a form of self-defense. Karate originated in Japan, and Kung-Fu is from China. Taekwondo is native to Korea. In terms of technique, it emphasizes kicks more than other martial arts, making it ideal for improving balance, flexibility, and endurance.
Q. How can practicing at Choi’s help increase confidence?
A. The practice of Taekwondo is a very individualize practice. With time, each child learns the benefits of practicing and is rewarded as a sign of accomplishment. With positive reinforcement and acknowledging the efforts of each child, the children learn that they are powerful individuals.
Q. How can practicing at Choi’s increase focus?
A. With training, each child learns that greatness is achieved not through natural athleticism, but rather through focusing and effort. While paying attention in class, students will receive clear instructions which will help them progress.
Q. Does Martial Arts increase aggressiveness?
A. Absolutely not. Your child will be taught from the first lesson that True "Taekwondo kids" never misuse their martial arts skills. Throughout their training, they will be reminded that being physically and mentally tough does not allow one to hurt others. Instead, Taekwondo students are expected to be humble, courteous, respectful and careful about when and where they practice their skills. The instructors at Choi's Martial Arts will continually educate your child that Taekwondo practice is for exercise and self-improvement, not a tool for bullying.
Q. What about Safety?
A. Tae Kwon Do is safe and fun for students of all ages and physical abilities. Classes are taught by expert instructors as students are shown techniques in a step-by-step manner at their own pace. A thorough stretching routine, matted flooring and protective safety equipment are all part of our commitment to ensuring student safety. Your child will be participating in non contact sparring once they reach yellow belt, and Olympic sparring are optional.
